Hunter, O's take on Blue Jays
Apr 13, 2012 - 2:58 PMVideo
A 25-year-old native of Indianapolis, Hunter split a pair of decisions over eight appearances with the Texas Rangers last season before a late July trade that brought him to the Orioles for Koji Uehara.
He was 3-3 with Baltimore in 12 appearances - 11 starts - with a 5.06 earned run average across 69 1/3 innings.
He began the 2012 season on April 7 against Minnesota and allowed a pair of unearned runs and six hits in seven innings of an 8-2 win. He walked a batter and struck out three.
Hunter is 1-3 in eight career outings against Toronto with a 6.75 ERA in 40 innings.
For the Blue Jays, righty Brandon Morrow starts for the sixth time in his career against the Orioles.
The former first-round pick - No. 5 overall in 2006 - allowed a hit and two unearned runs in seven innings of Toronto's 7-4 triumph on April 7 at Cleveland. He got a no-decision in the game after walking three and striking out three.
He's 2-2 against Baltimore with a 4.46 ERA in 36 1/3 innings, walking 15 batters and striking out 39.
On Wednesday in Toronto, Ricky Romero outdueled Jon Lester, while Rajai Davis had an RBI triple and scored two runs as the Blue Jays edged the Boston Red Sox, 3-1.
Romero (1-0), who retired 17 consecutive Red Sox hitters at one point, gave up a run on three hits and two walks while fanning five in 8 1/3 innings.
Sergio Santos recorded the final two outs in the ninth for his first save after blowing his first opportunity for one against Boston on Monday.
Jose Bautista was 0-for-3 and didn't register a hit in the series (0-for-11).
In Baltimore, Nick Swisher belted the go-ahead two-run homer in the 10th inning, giving the New York Yankees a 6-4 victory over the Orioles to complete a three-game series sweep.
Yankees reliever Rafael Soriano (1-0) struck out Adam Jones with the bases loaded to send the game to extra innings, and after Mark Teixeira reached on a bloop double down the left-field line with two outs in the 10th, Swisher crushed Kevin Gregg's (0-1) offering deep into the right-field seats.
Robert Andino and Mark Reynolds each drove in a pair of runs in defeat.
Toronto has gone 27-9 versus Baltimore since the start of the 2010 season, including victories in 15 of 18 at home.
