Braves destroy Mets

Apr 18, 2012 - 9:05 PM Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Juan Francisco, Dan Uggla and Freddie Freeman each hit a two-run homer on Wednesday and the Braves pounded the Mets, 14-6, in the finale of a three-game series.

Atlanta, which was swept by the Mets to begin the season, has won seven of its last eight games overall, including the final two in this series.

Michael Bourn went 3-for-4 with two RBI and Martin Prado also knocked in a pair. Jair Jurrjens allowed four runs on seven hits over four-plus innings and Cristhian Martinez (1-0) earned the win after giving up one run in two innings of relief.

"It was awesome," Uggla said. "It was really fun to watch. Francisco got us going with another homer."

David Wright had three RBI, Ike Davis hit a solo home run and Kirk Nieuwenhuis went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles for the Mets, losers of three of their last four.

R.A. Dickey (2-1) took the loss and saw his major league-leading streak of 14 straight quality starts come to an emphatic end. He was charged with eight runs on eight hits and two walks over 4 1/3 innings.

"I've got to give us a better shot," Dickey said. "We were hitting the ball great. I wish I would've kept us in the game longer."

The Braves went on top for good in the third. Jurrjens and Bourn led off with consecutive singles before scoring on Prado's double down the left-field line. Uggla followed two batters later with a two-run homer for a 6-3 advantage.

Wright scored Nieuwenhuis and chased Jurrjens with an infield single in the fifth, but Freeman threw Daniel Murphy out at the plate later in the inning and hit a two-run homer in the bottom half to make it 8-4.

Josh Thole doubled to begin the sixth and later scored on Nieuwenhuis's single, but Atlanta continued to pull ahead. In the home sixth, Chipper Jones hit an RBI double with a catchable fly to left fielder Jason Bay and scored on Bourn's line drive single. The Mets left the bases loaded in the seventh before Matt Diaz and Bourn slapped two-out RBI singles, making it 12-5.

Nieuwenhuis led off the eighth with a double and Murphy followed with an RBI single but Jason Heyward tripled a half-inning later and scored on Freeman's sac fly before David Ross doubled home Francisco to cap the scoring.

Earlier, Davis led off the second inning with a blast over the wall in right- center field for his third home run of the season to give the Mets an initial lead.

The Braves went in front in the bottom of the inning when Francisco followed Freeman's one-out double with his second home run of the season and second in as many games.

The Mets regained the lead when Nieuwenhuis and Murphy each walked with one out in the third and raced home on a double off the center-field wall by Wright. Davis then drilled a hard one-hopper off the glove of Freeman at first and Wright was easily gunned down at home by Uggla, who was backing up the play. After Bay again walked, Duda was caught looking at a third strike to keep it a 3-2 game.

Game Notes

Wright is now tied with Darryl Strawberry for the most RBI in team history (733)...The Braves improved to 6-1 on the season when they score four or more runs in a game...Heyward extended his hit streak to eight straight games...Dickey's quality start streak dated back to July 25th of last year. It was the longest streak in the majors since Jered Weaver had 15 straight quality starts from May 18-August 5, 2011.
