Matsuzaka looks to get back on track vs. A's

Jun 5, 2007 - 2:29 PM Boston (37-19) at Oakland (29-27) 10:05 pm EDT

OAKLAND, California (Ticker) - The Boston Red Sox's $103 million man has been going through some growing pains lately.

Daisuke Matsuzaka (7-3, 4.83 ERA) will look to get back on track Tuesday when the Red Sox visit the Oakland Athletics.

The Japanese righthander followed up a rough outing at Texas on May 25 with his first loss since April 17 last Wednesday against Cleveland. Matsuzaka went 1-1 while yielding 11 runs in 10 2/3 combined innings in the two starts.

Prior to his start in Texas, Dice-K had run off a string of three straight starts where he had lasted at least seven innings and surrendered a total of five runs.

The A's will counter with former Boston hurler Lenny DiNardo (1-2, 1.80). The lefthander is going through a career resurgence in Oakland after being released by the Red Sox early in spring training.

DiNardo started the season in the bullpen, but made his first start last Tuesday, allowing four runs - one earned - over 5 1/3 innings in a loss to the Texas Rangers.

He spent the past three seasons with Boston, riding the shuttle between Class AAA Pawtucket and the big club during each year. DiNardo appeared in 43 games for the Red Sox, going 1-2 in mostly a long-relief role.

The A's took the first game of the series, 5-4, in 11 innings on Monday, giving them six wins in their last seven meetings with Boston.
