Hirsh looks to gain revenge on former team

DENVER (Ticker) -- In case Jason Hirsh needed something to shake him free from his struggles of late, Tuesday may provide a good dose of medicine.

Hirsh and the Colorado Rockies begin a three-game set at Coors Field against the Houston Astros on Tuesday.

Hirsh (2-5, 5.10 ERA), a former top prospect of the Houston Astros, was traded along with Willy Taveras for former Colorado ace Jason Jennings during the offseason.

The righthander has to hope that facing his former team can help him erase the memory of his last outing on Thursday, a 4 2/3-inning shellacking in which he surrendered eight runs and 10 hits in an 8-4 loss to St. Louis.

Hirsh has dropped his last four decisions, is winless in his last seven starts and has allowed a 6.68 ERA in the month of May, almost double of the 3.41 ERA he compiled in April. He will be making his first appearance against his former team.

He will be opposed by Wandy Rodriguez (2-5, 4.53), who will try to break his long road winning drought. He is winless in his last 11 outings away from Minute Maid Park, dating to July 2.

On Wednesday, the lefthander allowed three runs and seven hits over five frames in a 4-3 loss to Cincinnati. Rodriguez is 1-1 with a 5.68 ERA in three lifetime starts against the Rockies.
