Buehrle tries to keep Marlins in win column in San Diego
May 5, 2012 - 3:07 PMVideo
Buehrle has lost four of his five starts with the Marlins since signing a 4- year, $58 million deal this past winter. However, he is pitching to a 3.34 earned run average and has received one run or less of support in three of his outings.
Run support, though, wasn't an issue his last time out on Monday against Arizona, as Buehrle was hit hard for seven runs (four earned) and eight hits in five innings.
Buehrle pitched 7 2/3 scoreless innings without getting a decision in his only other appearance against the Padres.
The Marlins picked up their fourth straight win in Friday's opener, as Omar Infante's run-scoring double in the 12th inning carried them to a 9-8 victory.
Steve Cishek (4-0) tossed three scoreless innings of relief to earn the win after Heath Bell gave up the tying run in the bottom of the ninth for his fourth blown save of the year.
Hanley Ramirez had a three-run home run and Giancarlo Stanton added a two-run homer for the Marlins, who had lost eight of nine before their winning streak.
Josh Spence (0-1) gave up the deciding run to suffer the loss as San Diego had its two-game win streak snapped.
Tonight, San Diego will hand the ball to lefty Clayton Richard, who is 1-3 with a 5.12 ERA. Richard lost his third straight start on Sunday in San Francisco, as he gave up four runs and eight hits in seven innings.
Richard has never faced the Marlins.
Miami's win on Friday was only its first is six tries in San Diego.
