Moyer hopes for some support vs. Braves
May 5, 2012 - 3:08 PMVideo
The 49-year-old Moyer has gotten a combined five runs from his teammates this season and received none for the third time in a 6-5 home loss in 11 innings to the New York Mets on Sunday. He wasn't that great either, as he allowed four runs and 11 hits in five innings.
Moyer, the oldest player to ever win a big league game, is 1-2 with a 3.14 ERA. He's 6-10 lifetime against the Braves with a 5.08 ERA in 19 games (17 starts).
Run support wasn't a problem for anyone on Friday, as the Braves and Rockies combined for 17 runs and 17 hits in Atlanta's 9-8, 11-inning win. Eric Hinske racked up four of those hits for the Braves, including the go- ahead two-run homer in the top of the 11th inning.
Hinske finished with three RBI, while Freddie Freeman added a two-run shot among his four hits, Brian McCann contributed a two-run single and Chipper Jones went 3-for-5 with a solo shot and three runs scored for the Braves, who have won two of three.
"I got a nice pitch to hit there," Hinske said. "I got it up into the nice Colorado air and got some backspin on it and it kept going."
Chad Durbin (2-0) tossed a scoreless 10th inning to pick up the win and Craig Kimbrel gave up a run in the 11th, but nailed down his ninth save of the season.
Jonathan Herrera ripped a solo homer among his two hits, while Todd Helton finished 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI and two runs scored. Dexter Fowler added a two-run single for the Rockies, who have dropped two of their last three.
Edgmer Escalona (0-1) was saddled with the loss after giving up Hinske's homer.
Atlanta will counter with righty Mike Minor, who was banged around by the Pittsburgh Pirates in a loss on Monday. He gave up seven runs and eight hits in 6 1/3 innings of that one and fell to 2-2 to go along with a 4.68 ERA.
"They showed if I don't make good pitches, what happens to me," Minor said after the game. "I didn't really have command of any pitches. I had a lot of strikeouts. But I don't really have an explanation of why. I was just really inconsistent."
This will be his first-ever start against the Rockies.
Atlanta was 6-2 against the Rockies last season. Since the start of the 2000 season, the Braves are 30-12 against the Rockies at home, but sport a losing 20-21 record at Coors Field.
