Nationals look to steal series from Pirates
Jun 7, 2007 - 1:41 PM Pittsburgh (25-34) at Washington (24-35) 1:05 pm EDTWASHINGTON (Ticker) -- Even though his record does not reflect it, Matt Chico seems to bring out the best in the Washington Nationals.
Chico and the Nationals conclude their three-game series with the Pittsburgh Pirates at RFK Stadium on Thursday.
Chico (3-4, 5.13 ERA), who has never faced the Pirates in his career, takes the mound for Washington. The Nationals have won his last five starts, although he has just one win to show for it.
In Friday's 4-3 victory over the Padres, the lefthander allowed three runs and seven hits over five-plus frames. He has thrown much better at home (3-0 with a 4.80 ERA) as compared to the road (0-4 with a 5.46 ERA in six outings).
Ian Snell (5-4, 2.94) looks to repeat his solid showing from Friday. He yielded one run and six hits with six strikeouts over eight innings Saturday in a 3-1 victory over the Dodgers. He is 0-0 with a 6.00 ERA in three appearances - including one start - against Washington.
