Giants LHP Lowry looks to cool off Diamondbacks

PHOENIX (Ticker) -- The Arizona Diamondbacks are red-hot, but they will get a tough test against a pitcher they have struggled to beat.

Noah Lowry (5-5, 3.28 ERA) takes the mound for the San Francisco Giants looking to slow down the Diamondbacks in the series finale on Thursday.

Arizona won 1-0 behind seven scoreless innings from Brandon Webb and a home run from Chris Young, and have won 11 of their last 12 games. Young also won Tuesday's game with a walk-off homer in the 10th.

However, Lowry owns a four-game winning streak over Arizona with a 1.35 ERA in that span. Overall Lowry is 5-1 with a 2.36 ERA in eight career starts vs. the Diamondbacks. The Giants, who have dropped nine of 11, hope that track record will lead to their first win in Arizona in five tries this season.

In his last time out the lefthander allowed four runs and five hits in seven innings in a 5-2 loss to Philadelphia on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Livan Hernandez (5-3, 3.65 ERA) will try to prolong the Diamondbacks hot streak. On Friday, Hernandez lost to New York as he allowed three runs and eight hits in six frames.

Barry Bonds is expected to be back in the lineup after he was limited to a pinch hit appearance due to shin splints that have caused him to miss his last two starts. The lefthanded slugger remains 10 homers shy of breaking Hank Aaron's all-time record.
