Ishikawa homers twice as Brewers thump Mets

May 16, 2012 - 4:43 AM Flushing, NY (Sports Network) - Travis Ishikawa homered twice and knocked in a career-high five RBI as the Milwaukee Brewers hammered the New York Mets, 8-0, in the finale of a two-game series.

Rickie Weeks also went deep for the Brewers, who snapped a two-game slide.

Zack Greinke (4-1) struck out seven while allowing five hits and no walks through seven scoreless innings to earn the win.

"My control has been good the last two starts," said Greinke. "The main key is just not make a lot of mistakes and limit the hits to singles for the most part."

Dillon Gee (2-3) was touched for seven runs on eight hits and a walk in 5 1/3 innings in New York's third loss in five games.

After the Mets stranded a runner on second in the first inning, Milwaukee took the lead in the second when Aramis Ramirez led off the frame with a walk, advanced to third on Jonathan Lucroy's double and came home on an Ishikawa groundout to first.

Cesar Izturis then hit a single back up the middle to plate Lucroy and give the Brewers a 2-0 advantage.

Ishikawa led off the fifth inning with a blast over the right-field wall to increase Milwaukee's lead, and an RBI single by Lucroy followed by Ishikawa's three-run shot to center in the sixth made the score 7-0.

Weeks' solo homer in the seventh inning off D.J. Carrasco added to the rout. Carrasco then hit Ryan Braun in the shoulder with his next pitch and was immediately ejected from the game.

New York only threatened to score on Greinke one more time after the first inning, when Mike Baxter hit a one-out pinch-hit double in the sixth. But Andre Torres and Kirk Nieuwenhuis followed with back-to-back groundouts to end the inning.

"We're used to facing No. 1 pitchers and once in a while they are going to pitch better than you are," Mets manager Terry Collins said about Greinke. "Tonight they made pitches they needed to make."

Tim Dillard then pitched a perfect eighth before John Axford tossed a scoreless ninth to preserve the shutout for Milwaukee.
