Happ helps Astros blank Brewers
May 18, 2012 - 5:14 AMVideo
Happ (3-3) gave up seven hits, struck out four and walked one for Houston, which earned just its second series sweep of the season.
"I'm just trying to be aggressive and throw strikes," said Happ. "With the pitches that I miss and that they get on, the guys behind me do a great job."
Lowrie's homer came in the fourth inning, as did RBI singles by Chris Snyder and Jordan Schafer.
Shaun Marcum (2-2) was charged with four runs -- three earned -- on nine hits over five innings in the loss. He walked one and struck out five.
"It's always good when we go home because we need to get it going," said Milwaukee manager Ron Roenicke. "Maybe going home will help us, but we need to get some things corrected offensively."
Milwaukee slugger Ryan Braun came to the plate with one down and the bases loaded in the third inning. A walk to Marcum, a double by Norichika Aoki and an infield single by Rickie Weeks preceded Braun's at-bat, which resulted in a pop out to first baseman Carlos Lee in foul territory. Aramis Ramirez grounded out to end the threat and the Astros went on top for good an inning later.
Lee began the fourth with a base hit before Lowrie sent a 3-2 fastball over the fence in right. Later in the inning, Snyder scored Brian Bogusevic with a line drive to center and Schafer followed with a two-out RBI single to cap the scoring.
Game Notes
