Marlins look to keep rolling against Devil Rays
Jun 8, 2007 - 2:11 PM Tampa Bay (26-32) at Florida (30-31) 7:05 pm EDTMIAMI (Ticker) -- The Florida Marlins look to continue their recent success against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays when the teams open a three-game interleague series on Friday.
The Marlins swept their in-state rivals in a three-game series in May at Tampa Bay. This time, home field belongs to the Marlins, who are looking to get back to the .500 mark for the first time since May 1, when they where 13-13.
Byung-Hyun Kim (3-2, 4.40 ERA) gets the start for the Marlins, who are seeking their third consecutive win. Acquired from the Colorado Rockies last month, Kim made his debut with his new team against the Devil Rays in a 8-4 win on May 18.
In that game, Kim allowed three runs - two earned - in 5 1/3 innings. Since joining Florida, the former closer is 2-0 with a 2.78 ERA in four starts.
Tampa Bay hopes starter J.P. Howell (1-0, 1.13) can duplicate his first start of the year. The 24-year-old lefthander held the Kansas City Royals to one run in eight innings and struck out eight during a 5-1 win on Sunday.
Howell started 23 games for the Devil Rays between 2005-06, but began this season in Class AAA.
Devil Rays closer Al Reyes is 14-for-14 in save opportunities to start the season.
