Penny looks to reverse struggles against the AL
Jun 8, 2007 - 2:28 PM Toronto (28-31) at LA Dodgers (34-26) 10:40 pm EDTLOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Brad Penny has a pretty good track record against the National League. It is against the American League where he loses his value.
Penny and the Los Angeles Dodgers begin a three-game weekend set at Dodger Stadium against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Penny (7-1, 2.37 ERA), who is just 1-4 with a 5.20 ERA in seven interleague starts for the Dodgers, will look to improve his 1-0 record in two starts vs. Toronto despite a 6.75 ERA against the Blue Jays.
The righthander is 7-0 with a 1.35 ERA in 11 starts against teams from the NL this season, but dropped his only game against an AL team (Anaheim) when he allowed a season-high eight runs.
On Sunday, he surrendered four runs and nine hits over six innings, but the Dodgers saved him with five runs in the last three innings to prevail at Pittsburgh, 5-4. It was just the second time in his 12 starts Penny allowed more than three runs.
Dustin McGowan (2-2, 5.50) will go for his third straight win for the first time in his career when he takes the mound for the Blue Jays. On Saturday, he surrendered three runs and six hits over seven frames in a 9-3 win over the White Sox.
This will be the righthander's first lifetime appearance against the Dodgers.
