Germano looks to stay unbeaten vs. Mariners

SAN DIEGO (Ticker) -- Justin Germano takes the mound looking to keep the San Diego Padres rolling in the opener of this weekend's interleague series with the Seattle Mariners on Friday.

Germano (4-0, 1.74 ERA) has been awfully impressive since being recalled from Class AAA Portland, winning four straight starts. In his last start, Germano beat Washington by allowing three runs and six hits in six innings.

The 24-year-old, who has allowed just five runs in his last 28 innings, will try and help the Padres to their fourth straight win as well as 17th in the last 22 games.

San Diego is coming off a sweep of their rival Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday when Russell Branyan drew a bases-loaded walk to cap a five-run ninth in a 6-5 win.

In the first interleague meeting between the teams, the Padres took two out of three from the Mariners in Seattle on May 18-20.

Seattle will counter by sending veteran Miguel Batista (6-4, 5.43) to the mound. Batista also has been very effective, winning three straight starts and allowing more than two runs just once in his last four starts.
