Nolasco tries again to become Marlins' win leader vs. Rockies

May 22, 2012 - 3:04 PM (Sports Network) - Ricky Nolasco once again tries to become the Marlins' all- time wins leader when Miami continues a three-game series with the Colorado Rockies at Marlins Ballpark.

Nolasco picked up career win No. 68 back on May 6 to move into a tie for the Marlins' franchise lead with Dontrelle Willis. But he has been battered around in two starts since, allowing 10 runs in only 8 2/3 innings.

He is 4-2 on the year with a 4.10 ERA.

Nolasco, though, could get that elusive victory tonight, as he owns a 5-1 lifetime mark against the Rockies with a 4.43 ERA in seven games (six starts).

Miami overcame an early four-run deficit in Monday's opener, as Giancarlo Stanton hit a monster grand slam to help the Marlins to a 7-4 win. Austin Kearns went 4-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored for the Marlins, who opened up a 10-game homestand with their fifth win in seven tries.

Mark Buehrle (4-4) allowed four runs on five hits over 7 2/3 frames to pick up the win. He also had a double and a run scored.

"It's one of those games where the first thing I thought was that it was going to be a long night," said Buehrle. "Right off the bat we're down 4-0 and it ain't looking good. I just had to go out and try to throw as many zeros to try and get us back in the game."

Troy Tulowitzki hit a two-run homer for the Rockies, who have lost five in a row. Michael Cuddyer added two RBI.

Jamie Moyer (2-4) gave up six runs on nine hits over 3 2/3 innings. The 49- year-old struck out five and walked four while falling to 0-3 in four road outings this season.

"I kind of backed myself into a corner with all those walks," said Moyer. "A lot of pitches, deep into the count is not the way to be an efficient pitcher. Ultimately I got what I deserved."

The Rockies are hoping for a better effort tonight from Juan Nicasio, who has pitched to a 1.31 ERA away from home this season, despite not having a road win. Overall he is 2-1 with a 4.37 ERA.

"I'm feeling the same, you know," Nicasio said. "A lot of people they talk about Coors Field and pitchers, but I feel the same there and on the road. Every time I'm pitching now, I'm pitching better on the road than at home. I think it's the same for me, I feel the same at home and on the road."

Colorado and Miami split six meetings a season ago.
