Marlins eye record books in finale with Giants

The Marlins have an 18-7 record in May. That's one victory shy of equaling the most victories in any month. They had 19 in August 1997, the year of their first World Series title.
Nolasco has been a big reason for Miami's early-season success. He snapped a personal two-game skid in his last time to the rubber, on Tuesday against the Rockies. In that game, he allowed eight hits and four runs over six innings. Nolasco became the Marlins' all-time wins leader, earning his 69th career victory and breaking a first-place tie with Dontrelle Willis. He had a season- high six strikeouts in the game.
Over his career, Nolasco has dominated the Giants with a 5-2 mark and a 1.56 ERA over seven starts. He has won four straight starts vs. San Francisco with a 1.20 ERA in that span, giving up just four earned runs over 30 frames.
Matt Cain, who has won his last three starts, counters for the Giants. The righty is coming off a triumph at Milwaukee on Tuesday despite surrendering 11 hits, which ties a career-high. He also set a career-high with seven extra base hits allowed, but the Brewers were just 2-for-13 with men in scoring position against him.
Scheduled to make his 11th career start vs. the Marlins, Cain has gone 3-3 with a 3.16 ERA vs. Miami. He threw eight innings in a 2-1 loss against Nolasco on May 1 this year in San Francisco.
Yesterday, Logan Morrison drove in two runs and Mark Buehrle pitched into the eighth inning in a 5-3 Miami win. Giancarlo Stanton had two doubles and scored twice, while Donovan Solano added two hits and an RBI for the Marlins, who have won the past two games after losing a pair.
Buehrle (5-4) gave up just two runs on eight hits with three strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings to win his fourth straight decision.
"We're playing some good ball and everything is coming together at the same time," said Buehrle. "Hopefully we can keep this rolling into the next month and string a bunch of wins together."
Gregor Blanco had three hits and an RBI for the Giants, who have lost three of four. Madison Bumgarner (5-4) was touched for five runs -- four earned -- on seven hits with two walks and seven strikeouts over six innings.
"He wasn't as sharp today as he usually is," said Giants manager Bruce Bochy about Bumgarner. "It was really just one bad inning, but that's what has hurt us the last couple of days."
Miami swept a three-game set in San Francisco from May 1-3 and has won 10 of the past 13 meetings between the two clubs.
