Awaiting his punishment, Berkman aim to right Astros ship

CHICAGO (Ticker) - Usually a mild-mannered man, Lance Berkman is raising quite a fuss lately.

The Houston Astros continue their three-game interleague series with the Chicago White Sox on Saturday.

Berkman, already appealing a two-game suspension by Major League Baseball for coming onto the field after having been ejected on Thursday, was thrown out of Friday's game as well for arguing a strike call with home plate umpire Sam Holbrook.

While the Astros await the ruling for their slugger, they must attend to the business of improving their 4-4 record over the last eight contests, following a 10-game skid.

Jason Jennings (0-1, 3.13 ERA), who has never faced the White Sox, looks to get his first win of the season following two no-decisions. The righthander tossed six innings on Sunday in an 8-6, 10-inning loss against the Cardinals, surrendering four runs and seven hits.

Opposing Jennings will be Chicago starter Jon Garland (4-3, 3.61), who is coming on after a slow start to the season. After going winless in five April starts, the righthander is is 4-1 with a 3.35 ERA in six starts since the beginning of May.

On Monday, Garland yielded two runs - one earned - and seven hits over 8 1/3 innings in a 6-4 win over the New York Yankees. He is making his second regular season start against the Astros - he started against Houston in Game Three of the 2005 World Series - but is 0-0 with a 9.00 ERA in his lone outing against the club.
