Bonderman seeks sixth straight win, Tigers take on Mets

DETROIT (Ticker) - After being shutout for the first time in 2007, the Detroit Tigers look to Jeremy Bonderman to set things right.

Bonderman and the Tigers hope to get back on the winning track when they face the New York Mets in an interleague game on Saturday.

Bonderman (5-0, 3.27 ERA) has won five consecutive starts and hasn't lost since September 10. The righthander allowed two runs and four hits over 6 2/3 innings in a 9-2 win vs. Cleveland on Sunday.

With his three straight victories at the end of 2006, Bonderman is trying to become the first Detroit pitcher to win nine in a row since David Wells did it in 1995.

The Tigers, who had won two straight and four of five before being shutout Friday, face the Mets, who stopped a season-high four-game losing streak with the 3-0 victory.

New York sends Oliver Perez (6-4, 2.80) to the mound, who wants to begin another winning streak. The lefthander allowed three runs and four hits in a 4-1 loss to Arizona on Sunday. It was the first loss for Perez, who had put together a personal-best three-game winning streak.

Bonderman is 0-1 lifetime vs. the Mets, while Perez has never faced the Tigers.
