Royals look to continue interleague success

KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Ticker) -- The Kansas City Royals haven't been very successful in recent years, unless one is referring to interleague play.

The Royals will be after their 14th win in their last 20 interleague games when they host the Philadelphia Phillies.

Kansas City starter Gil Meche (3-5, 3.00 ERA) has pitched well over his last two starts but doesn't have a win to show for it. He's allowed three runs in 13 1/3 innings during those starts but the Royals have scored two runs combined in those games.

The Phillies counter with Jon Lieber (2-4, 4.30), who has struggled in his last three starts - going 0-2 with a 7.54 ERA.

The Royals used a pair of two-run homers by Mark Grudzielanek and Mike Sweeney to defeat the Phillies 8-4 on Friday.

The Royals snapped a seven-game home losing streak while the Phillies' six-game road winning streak was snapped.

Kansas City has scored more than four runs in just two of its last 15 games and have been outscored 84-44 in that span.
