Orlando Hudson clubbed a two-run triple and Adam Dunn belted his 21st home run of the year for the White Sox, who have won eight straight games on the road. Gordon Beckham added an RBI base hit in the victory.
Jose Quintana (2-1) allowed just one run on 10 hits over 5 1/3 innings to earn the win. He fanned four without walking a batter. The Chicago bullpen gave up only one hit the rest of the way.
"He finds a way to make them hit a ground ball or get ahead," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said. "They had some innings that make you scratch your head and get people moving around in the bullpen, but he finds a way to make a pitch and get out of it."
Allen Craig knocked singled in the lone run for the defending World Series champs, who went 2-for-8 with runners in scoring position and stranded seven men on base.
Adam Wainwright (5-7) pitched well in defeat, allowing two runs on five hits and a pair of walks over seven innings. He also had seven strikeouts.
Chicago struck first with a pair of runs in the second inning. Following a single by Paul Konerko to start the frame, Alex Rios reached on a fielder's choice and Pierzynski beat out a single deep in the hole at shortstop to put two men on. Hudson then clubbed a two-out triple into the right-center field gap to plate both runners.
"Adam definitelt deserved better than the result," Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said. "He was very good today and could have left that game in the eighth without any runs."
Matt Holliday started the sixth with a double down the left field line and scored when Craig ripped a base hit up the middle two batters later to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Chicago broke the game open with four runs in the eighth. Facing reliever Marc Rzepczynski, Alejandro De Aza doubled to start the inning and came around to score on a single up the middle by Beckham. Dunn followed and blasted a slider into the seats in right field, which spelled the end of the night for Rzepczynski.
Mitchell Boggs entered the game and allowed a base hit to Konerko before Pierzynski got ahold of a high sinker and sent it over the right field wall to account for the final score.
Addison Reed tossed a 1-2-3 ninth to finish off the win, which marked the first eight-game road winning streak for the White Sox since they won 12 straight from June 4-July 3, 2000.
