Young, Hernandez face off in series finale
Jun 10, 2007 - 3:09 PM Seattle (32-26) at San Diego (36-25) 4:05 pm EDTSAN DIEGO (Ticker) -- Chris Young has been spectacular this season. The San Diego Padres will need him to continue his hot streak if they are going to avoid being swept for the first time.
Young (6-3, 2.19 ERA) takes the mound in the when the Padres visit the Seattle Mariners in their series finale on Sunday.
The 6-10 righthander has not allowed a run in his last 16 innings and has allowed just five runs in his last 49 innings. Young's strong run has lifted him into second place in the National League in ERA, behind teammate Jake Peavy (1.97).
He will have a tough test against a Seattle lineup that has scored at least five runs in each of its games in the month of June. On Saturday night, the Mariners overcame a 5-1 deficit with five runs in the final three innings to win 6-5.
Seattle will counter with ace Felix Hernandez (3-3, 4.40). The 21-year-old righthander has been entirely hittable lately, yielding a combined 11 earned runs in his past two starts.
Since coming off the disabled list on May 15, Hernandez owns a 1-2 mark with a 6.31 ERA in five starts.
The Mariners have begun 2-0 on their current 10-game road trip.
