Athletics look to continue roll against Giants
Jun 10, 2007 - 3:10 PM Oakland (33-28) at San Francisco (28-33), 4:05 pm EDTSAN FRANCISCO (Ticker) -- The 2007 "Battle of the Bay" has gone the way of the Oakland Athletics.
Oakland can complete a three-game series sweep of the San Francisco Giants when the teams meet on Sunday.
In addition to taking the first two games of this series, the Athletics won two-of-three from their Bay-area rivals when the teams met in Oakland last month. Overall, the A's have won seven of their last eight meetings against the Giants.
After spending the majority of the season in the bullpen, Lenny DiNardo (2-2, 1.45 ERA) takes the mound for Oakland. The 6-4 lefthander has been strong in his first two starts, going 1-1 with an 0.80 ERA in 11 1/3 innings. Oakland has not provided DiNardo with much runs support, getting shutout in his first start and scoring just twice in his 2-0 win over the Boston Red Sox on June 5.
Matt Cain (2-5, 3.54) gets the start for the Giants and is seeking his first win since May 13 - a span of four starts. The righthander faced the A's on May 19, allowing three runs in 6 1/3 innings during a 4-2 defeat.
The A's roughed up former teammate Barry Zito for the second time this season en route to a 6-0 victory here on Saturday.
Bobby Crosby had three hits, including a home run, and scored twice while Travis Buck and Mark Kotsay added three hits apiece for Oakland, which had 16 hits in the contest.
The Giants' Barry Bonds had two hits but the slugger has only one home run in his last 70 at-bats.
