Mariners and Indians to meet, no snow in forecast
Jun 11, 2007 - 1:18 PM Seattle (33-26) at Cleveland (37-24) 7:05 pm EDTCLEVELAND (Ticker) - The Seattle Mariners and the Cleveland Indians have had a hard time getting their games in this season.
The second makeup game of their four-game, snowed out series is set to take place Monday at Jacobs Field where the forecast calls for sunny skies and a game-time temperature of 78 degrees.
Paul Byrd (6-2, 3.80 ERA) will take the mound for the Indians. The veteran righthander was on the mound April 6 when the game was called one strike short of completion. Byrd had a no-hitter going at the time.
Since then, Byrd has yielded a total of four walks in 10 starts. He lost last time out against Kansas City, yielding four runs and 10 hits in six innings.
Cleveland is coming off a 2-1 series loss against in-state rival Cincinnati, which entered the series as the National League's worst team.
The Mariners, on the other hand, are surging this month, having won eight of their last 10 games. They are coming off a sweep of the San Diego Padres over the weekend.
Cha Seung Baek (3-2, 4.91) will get the start for Seattle. The Korean righthander lost to the Indians in the first makeup date, on May 21, yielding five runs and eight hits in 6 1/3 innings. Since then, Baek has gone 2-0 in three starts.
