Arroyo takes no-hitter into 8th, Reds down Brewers

Reds starter Bronson Arroyo fired 7 1/3 innings of no-hit ball before giving up three runs on a walk and three hits in the eighth to tie the game at 3-3.
"Winning the ball game, Stubbs coming back, obviously that's the biggest thing," remarked Arroyo. "On a personal level, that's definitely irritating to go out there and have five outs left to go in the ball game and a three-run lead and give it up like that."
Sean Marshall (2-3) got the win after recording the final out of the eighth.
Aroldis Chapman worked around a one-out walk and struck out three Brewers in the ninth to record his ninth save of the year, while Jay Bruce belted a three-run blast in the sixth to help the Reds win for the third time in their last four games.
John Axford (1-5) absorbed the loss for giving up Stubbs' leadoff blast in the eighth. Corey Hart clubbed a two-run double and Norichika Aoki added a run- scoring base hit for the Brewers, who have lost their last four games.
"I thought he threw the ball great," said Brewers manager Ron Roenicke about Axford. "He made one mistake, first pitch and after that he was great."
Arroyo hit Ryan Braun with two-outs in the first, but the veteran right-hander didn't allow another baserunner until the eighth.
He caught Travis Ishikawa looking at strike three to start the frame before walking George Kottaras to break a streak of 20 straight retired batters.
Taylor Green then ended the no-hit bid, stroking a double into the right field corner that barely found fair territory before rattling around.
Hart came on as a pinch-hitter and spoiled the shutout by launching a curveball off the center field wall to plate Kottaras and Green to make it a one-run contest.
After pinch-hitter Rickie Weeks popped out in foul territory, Aoki served a single the other way, scoring Hart from second to knot the game at 3-3.
But Cincinnati responded in the bottom half as Stubbs deposited Axford's first offering over the wall in center to put the Reds back in front for good.
Milwaukee starter Marco Estrada, who was activated off the 15-day disabled list before the game, was nearly as dominant as Arroyo in the early going, allowing just two hits and striking out 10 batters over the first five frames before experiencing some turbulence in the sixth.
Joey Votto ripped a one-out double to start the rally and Brandon Phillips' single put runners on the corners.
Bruce then unloaded on a first-pitch curveball, lifting it into the seats in right-center field to give the home team a 3-0 lead.
