Towers returns to rotation vs. Giants
Jun 11, 2007 - 1:31 PM Toronto (30-32) at San Francisco (28-34) 10:15 pm EDTSAN FRANCISCO (Ticker) - The Toronto Blue Jays decided to move Josh Towers back into the rotation. The way the San Francisco Giants have been hitting lately, now might be the perfect time.
The Giants will hope to get their offense back on track when they host the Blue Jays on Monday.
San Francisco managed just 11 combined hits while getting shutout in two straight games on Saturday and Sunday against the Oakland Athletics. The Giants were outscored 13-3 while getting swept in three games.
Towers (2-3, 5.15 ERA) pitched his way out of the rotation earlier this season, going 1-3 with a 4.70 ERA in four starts. The ineffectiveness of minor-league callup Jesse Litsch prompted his promotion back into the rotation.
The Giants will counter with their hottest starter, Matt Morris (6-3, 2.51). The veteran righthander has allowed just one run in his last 14 innings over two starts.
Morris will be taking on an offense that pounded out 16 hits in an 11-5 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday.
