Wakefield hopes to get back on track vs. Rockies
Jun 12, 2007 - 1:26 PM Colorado (31-32) at Boston (40-22) 7:05 pm EDTBOSTON (Ticker) - The Boston Red Sox own baseball's best record, but Tim Wakefield hasn't been a big part of that success recently. Wakefield will look to get back on track Tuesday when the Red Sox host the Colorado Rockies.
The veteran knuckleballer started out the season strong, going 4-3 over his first seven starts with an American League-leading 1.79 ERA. Since then, he has gone 1-4 with a 7.98 mark in five starts.
Wakefield (5-7, 4.22 ERA) could benefit from the fact that all but one of the Rockies' hitters will be seeing his knuckler for the first time. Todd Helton is 0-for-1 against Wakefield.
Colorado will counter with Aaron Cook (4-2, 4.54). The righthander ran off a string of four wins in five starts through most of May, but has not fared so well recently.
Cook has yielded five earned runs in each of his last two outings, losing May 31 against St. Louis and not factoring in the decision last Wednesday in a win over Houston.
The Red Sox are coming off a disappointing road trip during which they went 3-4. They managed more than four runs just once during the trek.
The Rockies are trying to get back to .500 for the first time since they were 5-5 on April 13.
