Hamels takes mound against struggling White Sox

PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) - Cole Hamels looks to continue his great start as the Philadelphia Phillees host the Chicago White Sox in the second of a three-game interleague series.

Hamels (8-2, 3.57 ERA), who has posted a 2-0 record with 3.27 ERA and 18 strikeouts in his last three starts, is seeking to become the National League's first nine-game winner.

The 23-year-old Hamels, who features a nasty changeup, leads the NL with 96 strikeouts.

Hamels will hope to continue his success against the White Sox, who have lost 13 of their last 16 games. Chicago has been held to three runs or fewer 11 times during that stretch.

The White Sox will counter with the struggling Jose Contreras (4-6, 4.23). The Cuban righthander is 0-2 with a 5.68 ERA in his last three starts.

Contreras pitched 7 1/3 innings, giving up three runs, four hits and a walk with five strikeouts in a 10-3 loss to the New York Yankees on Thursday.

Adam Eaton pitched seven scoreless innings and Ryan Howard, Pat Burrell and Jimmy Rollins homered as the Phillees captured a 3-0 triumph over the White Sox on Monday.
