Sinkerballer battle set for Tuesday at Yankee Stadium

BRONX, New York (Ticker) - It could be a long and boring night for the outfielders when two of the game's premier sinkerball specialists matchup.

Brandon Webb will start for the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday when they visit the New York Yankees and Chien-Ming Wang.

Webb (6-3, 3.13 ERA) won the 2006 National League Cy Young Award on the strength of a deadly sinkerball and seems to have the pitch working again after a slow start to the 2007 season.

The 28-year-old righthander has won his last three starts, and has not allowed an earned run in his last two.

Wang (5-4, 3.73) finished second in the American League in Cy Young voting last season, and has picked his form back up after spending some time on the disabled list earlier this season.

The Taiwanese righthander tossed a complete game five-hitter last Wednesday, limiting the Chicago White Sox to one run. He has now allowed three runs or less in each of his last five starts.

The Yankees are riding a six-game winning streak and have taken nine of their last 11 to pull to within 9 1/2 games of the first-place Boston Red Sox (40-22) in the American League East.

The Diamondbacks lost two of three over the weekend to the Red Sox, but share the lead in the NL West with the San Diego Padres.
