Lincecum tries to live up to the hype vs. Blue Jays
Jun 13, 2007 - 12:35 PM Toronto (30-34) at San Francisco (30-34) 3:35 pm EDTSAN FRANCISCO (Ticker) -- Of all the young pitchers the San Francisco Giants have introduced to the major leagues in the last few years, Tim Lincecum has been perhaps the most anticipated.
Lincecum will attempt to get back to dominating hitters Wednesday when the Giants host the Toronto Blue Jays in the finale of their three-game series.
The rookie righthander made a meteoric rise through the San Francisco farm system after being taken with the 10th overall pick in the 2006 draft and made an immediate splash with the big club, overcoming a tough first outing to win two of his next three starts.
Since then, Lincecum (2-0, 4.26 ERA) has been very mediocre, carrying a 6.00 ERA over his last three starts, all no decisions. While still holding hitters to just a .206 batting average, Lincecum, who turns 23 on Friday, has issued nine walks in his last 18 innings.
The Blue Jays will counter with Dustin McGowan (2-2, 5.02). The 25-year-old righthander struggled in his first few starts, but has been sharp of late, yielding three runs or less in each of his past four starts.
The Giants have a chance to sweep their first series since taking three games in a row from Houston May 21-23.
