Maroth looks to keep Tigers rolling
Jun 13, 2007 - 12:49 PM Milwaukee (34-30) at Detroit (37-26) 7:05 pm EDTDETROIT (Ticker) -- Coming on the heels of the first no-hitter at Comerica Park, Mike Maroth will take the mound as the Detroit Tigers continue a three-game interleague series with the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday.
In Tuesday's opener, Justin Verlander tossed the sixth no-hitter in franchise history as the Tigers posted a 4-0 victory. The reigning American League Rookie of the Year recorded a career-high 12 strikeouts and yielded four walks.
It was the first no-hitter for Detroit since Jack Morris spun one against the Chicago White Sox on April 7, 1984.
Maroth (4-2, 5.29 ERA) picked up a win in his last start, allowing three runs and eight hits in five innings in an 11-4 victory over the Texas Rangers on Thursday.
Maroth will hope to extend the Tigers' current three-game winning streak even though he has struggled at Comerica Park this season. The lefthander has gone 0-2 with a 5.60 ERA in four starts at home.
He will be opposed by Chris Capuano (5-5, 4.35), who has lost five straight decisions since beginning the season with a 5-0 record and a 2.31 ERA over his first seven starts.
Capuano has been roughed up over his personal losing streak, giving up 24 runs and 40 hits in 31 1/3 innings over his last six starts. The 28-year-old lasted just four innings in a 9-6 loss to the Rangers on Friday, surrendering six runs and eight hits with four walks.
The Brewers have lost four of their last five games.
