Batista, Mariners look to continue winning streak
Jun 13, 2007 - 1:49 PM Seattle (35-26) at Chicago Cubs (28-35) 8:05 pm EDTCHICAGO (Ticker) -- The Seattle Mariners and Miguel Batista will try to keep the winning streak going.
Batista and the Mariners aim for their sixth straight victory when they take on the Chicago Cubs in interleague play on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, Seattle outlasted Chicago, 5-3, in 13 innings to win its season-high fifth straight game. Willie Bloomquist's RBI single was the key hit to spur the extra-inning rally.
The Mariners will look to Batista (7-4, 5.48 ERA) to propel them on. The righthander earned a victory in relief on Sunday when he entered the eighth inning of a 3-3 contest vs. the San Diego Padres. After allowing a leadoff double, Batista retired the next three batters and picked up the win when his teammates scored a run in the top of the ninth in a 4-3 victory.
The 36-year-old has won four straight decisions and the Mariners have ended up on top in the last five games he has appeared in.
The Cubs will counter with Sean Marshall (2-2, 2.08), who is trying to win his third straight start.
After being recalled from Class AAA Iowa on May 22, the 6-7 lefthander has yielded just seven runs in 26 innings. The 24-year old allowed a run and four hits in a 9-1 victory over the Atlanta Braves on Friday.
