Tigers, Brewers meet in series finale

DETROIT (Ticker) -- The Detroit Tigers will try to salvage their interleague series against the Milwaukee Brewers in the series finale on Thursday.

A day after Justin Verlander threw the sixth no-hitter in franchise history in Tuesday's series opener, the Tigers absorbed their third loss in their last eight games with a 3-2 setback on Wednesday.

The Tigers' bullpen came up short once again as Bill Hall hit a game-winning, two-run homer off Fernando Rodney in the eighth inning.

Detroit's relievers continues to struggle without hard-throwing Joel Zumaya, who is sidelined with a ruptured tendon in his right middle finger. The Tigers' bullpen fell to 9-13 this year.

Detroit turns to Chad Durbin (5-2, 4.59 ERA), who had his personal five-game winning streak snapped in his last outing. The righthander allowed three runs and six hits in eight innings of a 3-0 setback to the New York Mets on Friday.

Milwaukee turns to Ben Sheets (6-3, 3.21), who is only four strikeouts away from collecting 1,000 for his career. The righthander is riding a 13-inning scoreless streak, a span of two games.

In his last start, Sheets yielded five hits and struck out six in seven scoreless frames but did not figure into a 4-3 loss at the Texas Rangers on Saturday.

Wednesday's win was just the third in the last eight games for the Brewers, who hold a 5 1/2-game lead in the National League Central.
