Beckett goes for 10-0 against Rockies

BOSTON (Ticker) - Josh Beckett has Roger Clemens in his crosshairs, and it has nothing to do with the legend signing with the New York Yankees.

Beckett takes the mound in search of his 10th win in as many decisions on Wednesday when the Boston Red Sox host the Colorado Rockies in the rubber game of their three-game series.

Beckett (9-0, 2.88 ERA) is bidding to become the first Red Sox pitcher to begin the season 10-0 since Clemens opened the 1986 campaign with a 14-0 mark.

Beckett rang up eight strikeouts and no walks last Friday against Arizona en route to win No. 9. The righthander was 4-0 in four starts against National League opponents last season.

In five career starts against the Rockies, Beckett is 4-0 with a 2.81 ERA and 23 strikeouts.

Colorado will counter with ace Jeff Francis (5-5, 3.81). The 26-year-old lefthander suffered a loss in his first interleague start last Friday at Baltimore when he allowed four runs and seven hits in seven innings. He never has faced Boston.

The Red Sox are just 5-7 in June and have scored more than four runs just once in their last nine contests.
