Lowe to start in battle of Los Angeles teams

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Round two in the battle of Los Angeles is set to begin Friday.

Derek Lowe will hope to lift the Los Angeles Dodgers to their fourth straight victory when they face the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the opener of a three-game interleague series.

The Dodgers were swept by the Angels and outscored 19-4 in a three-game series at Angel Stadium from May 18-20.

Lowe (6-6, 3.21) pitched eight innings, yielding three runs and nine hits with six strikeouts in a 4-1 loss to the Angels on May 20.

Lowe was on the losing side of a pitching duel in his last start. The 34-year-old righthander pitched a complete game, surrendering just one run and four hits in a 1-0 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday.

He will be opposed by Ervin Santana (5-6, 5.26), who has settled down after a rough start to the season. The 24-year-old has a 2-0 record with a 3.15 ERA and 17 strikeouts over his last three starts.

Santana pitched six innings and gave up three runs and six hits with five strikeouts in a 9-3 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday.
