Rutledge's big night powers Rockies past Dodgers

Aug 8, 2012 - 6:27 AM Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Josh Rutledge had a career-high four hits and knocked in three runs to lead the Colorado Rockies past the Los Angeles Dodgers, 3-1, in the middle test of a three-game series at Dodger Stadium.

Josh Roenicke (4-0) earned the win with three scoreless innings of relief of starter Alex White, who allowed a hit and walked five over four innings.

Eric Young Jr. added three hits and two runs scored for Colorado, which won consecutive games for the first time since bookending the All-Star break from July 8-13 with victories over Washington and Philadelphia.

"I have to take advantage of my opportunities. I see my name in the lineup and I go out and hit," said Young.

The Rockies had not won games on back-to-back days since beating the Dodgers on June 3 and Arizona on June 4.

Aaron Harang (7-7) surrendered all three runs on six hits and four walks in six-plus innings for the Dodgers, who have lost five of their last eight.

The Rockies threatened in the top of the first inning after loading the bases with one out on a Young single, Rutledge's double and an intentional walk to Carlos Gonzalez.

They would come up empty, though, as Jordan Pacheco hit a grounder to first that James Loney threw home for the force before Ramon Hernandez grounded out to Harang to end the threat.

After the Dodgers left a man on third in the second inning and Colorado stranded a runner on second in the third, Los Angeles filled the bags with two outs in the home third on a pair of walks to Shane Victorino and Matt Kemp before an intentional walk to Andre Ethier following a couple of stolen bases by Victorino and Kemp as well as a wild pitch.

However, LA would also walk away empty handed as Hanley Ramirez flied out to left.

"It was a battle. I fell into some tough situations but I was able to make a few pitches to get out of them," said White.

The Rockies were able to break the scoreless tie in the fifth when Young hit a one-out single before rounding the bases on Rutledge's double off the wall in center field.

Dexter Fowler then reached first on Loney's missed catch error on a grounder to second before Gonzalez worked a walk to load the bases, but Pacheco grounded into an inning-ending double play to keep it a 1-0 game.

Rutledge pulled his third two-bagger of the contest into the left-field corner in the seventh inning off Shawn Tolleson to plate Chris Nelson and Young, giving Colorado a 3-0 advantage.

Harang gave up a single to Nelson and walked Young before getting removed in favor of Tolleson.

The Dodgers left a man on second in the seventh inning but got on the board in the eighth when Ramirez hit a two-out single and rounded the bases on Mark Ellis' pinch-hit double to left.

Los Angeles would get no closer, though, as Rafael Betancourt worked a perfect ninth to record his 19th save of the year.

"We had some opportunities, we just didn't get it done tonight," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. "Our guys need to relax and get good pitches to hit."

Kemp went 0-for-3 to snap a nine-game hit streak...Harang fell to 6-6 in 14 career starts against Colorado...The Rockies now lead the season series between the teams, 6-5...Colorado clinched its first series win at Dodger Stadium since winning two of three meetings from September 17-19, 2010.
