Gallardo hopes to continue mastery of Astros

Aug 12, 2012 - 2:53 PM (Sports Network) - The Milwaukee Brewers have a couple of notable streaks going entering this weekend's series finale against the Astros. The positive one they'll be focusing on will be that of Yovani Gallardo.

The right-hander has won two straight starts overall and nine in a row against the Astros. He's 12-2 all-time against Houston, posting a 2.61 ERA in 14 starts. That includes 2-0 with a 1.38 ERA in two starts this season when facing the Astros.

Gallardo will likely need to be at his best today if the Brewers are to stop an 11-game road losing streak, which is now their second-longest in franchise history. The only one longer is a 17-game stretch of futility during the 1970 season.

Jordan Lyles aims to snap a seven-game winless skid today. The righty is 0-4 in that stretch and hasn't won since June 26 versus San Diego. Most recently, Lyles pitched seven-plus frames in a no-decision against Washington on Tuesday. He's 0-2 with a 6.63 ERA in four games (3 starts) against the Brewers.

Last night, Scott Moore slapped the game-winning single in the 10th inning to lift the Astros to a 6-5 win. Jim Henderson (0-1) returned to the mound for the 10th after tossing a perfect ninth and gave up a leadoff single to Jose Altuve.

Henderson then struggled to find the strike zone, issuing back-to-back walks to Marwin Gonzalez and Steve Pearce to load the bases. Moore stepped up next and ripped a high fastball into left field to give the Astros their first extra-inning win of the season.

"Scott Moore up to that point was having a tough night. Fitting that he got the opportunity to and came through for us," Astros manager Brad Mills said.

Houston was 0-11 in extras entering Saturday's game. They've won both games of this series in walk-off fashion.

Wilton Lopez (5-1) surrendered the game-tying run in the ninth inning, but worked around a two-out single in the 10th to earn the win for the Astros, who won consecutive games for the first time since June 23-24.

Pearce collected three RBI on a career-high tying three hits in the win.

Brewers outfielder Norichika Aoki has a 12-game hitting streak.

Today marks the final time the Brewers will be playing in Houston with the Astros as member of the National League. The two became NL Central rivals in 1998, but since then the Brewers have gone 40-73 in Houston, including 38-62 at Minute Maid Park and 2-11 at the Astrodome.

Milwaukee leads the season series, 7-6.
