White Sox, Blue Jays resume set up north

(Sports Network) - The Chicago White Sox will turn to rookie Jose Quintana in an effort to end their troubles at Rogers Centre when they resume a four-game set against the Toronto Blue Jays.

The American League Central-leading ChiSox dropped the opener of the series on Monday when David Cooper came through with a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the 11th inning to lift Toronto to a 3-2 victory.

Cooper's base knock made a winner of Steve Delabar (3-1), who fanned six and didn't allow a hit over two scoreless innings of relief.

Edwin Encarnacion drove in a run and Moises Sierra added his first career home run for the Blue Jays, who have won four straight over Chicago north of the border and 16 of 19 overall.

"We were fortunate enough we had a chance to tie the game and a chance to win it," White Sox starter Jake Peavy said. "They threw some pretty good arms at us tonight and we just came out on the wrong end."

Adam Dunn went deep twice for the White Sox, his 32nd career multi-homer game, and A.J. Pierzynski extended his hitting streak to 14 games for the White Sox, who have lost four of six overall but still hold a two-game lead over Detroit in the Central.

Dunn leads the major leagues with 33 home runs this season and also reached 1,000 career RBI with his performance on Monday. He is two homers shy of 400.

"Adam Dunn makes the ballpark look like a little league field every time he steps up to the plate," Blue Jays manager John Farrell said. "That was the case again tonight."

Quintana has pitched in hard-luck again during his last outing, allowing just two solo homers in seven-plus innings during a 2-1 setback against Kansas City last Wednesday. The rookie hasn't won since July 5 thanks in large part to shaky run support.

In Quintana's lone effort against the Blue Jays, the left-lander allowed just two runs over six innings but suffered a 4-0 loss back on June 6.

His counterpart for Toronto will be Henderson Alvarez, who is looking to bounce back from a poor performance against Tampa Bay on Thursday when he gave up six runs -- four earned -- on 11 hits in 4 2/3 innings during a 7-1 setback.

Alvarez is 0-1 with a 3.21 ERA in two career starts versus the White Sox.
