Marcum looks to lead Blue Jays another win

Jun 16, 2007 - 1:06 PM Washington (29-38) at Toronto (32-34) 1:07 pm EDT

TORONTO (Ticker) - Shaun Marcum has been a good-luck charm for the Toronto Blue Jays recently.

The Blue Jays have won each of the righthander's last five starts and look to continue that trend when they host the Washington Nationals on Saturday.

Marcum (3-2, 3.53 ERA) began the year in Toronto's bullpen, but since moving into the rotation on May 13 he is 2-0 with a 2.34 ERA in six starts. Marcum won his last start on Saturday against the Los Angeles Dodgers, pitching 6 2/3 scoreless innings. It was the third time he's pitched six or more innings in a start without allowing a run.

Like Marcum, Nationals starter Levale Speigner (2-2, 7.79) has moved from the bullpen to help his team's rotation. He's started five games this season, but it wasn't until last Saturday that he earned his first career win as a starter. In that 3-1 victory over the Minnesota Twins, he allowed one run and two hits in a career-high six innings.

Roy Halladay pitched 7 1/3 strong innings and Troy Glaus and Adam Lind each homered as the Blue Jays posted a 7-2 victory over the Nationals in Friday's series opener.
