Holland aims to pitch Rangers to series win vs. Indians

Sep 2, 2012 - 12:47 PM (Sports Network) - Derek Holland goes after a third straight win on Sunday when the Texas Rangers complete a three-game series with the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field.

Holland stretched his unbeaten streak to five starts on Monday against Tampa Bay, as he held the Rays to three earned runs and six hits in six innings to run his record to 9-6, while lowering his ERA to 4.90.

"I didn't have my best stuff, I definitely didn't have my best fastball, but I think I did a very good of battling," said Holland.

Holland is 2-0 in four starts versus the Indians with a 2.16 ERA.

Cleveland, meanwhile, will counter with righty Zach McAllister, who is 5-5 with a 3.82 ERA. McAllister was pounded in a loss to the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday, as he allowed five runs and nine hits in 4 1/3 innings.

McAlllister has never faced the Rangers.

Cleveland snapped a six-game losing streak on Saturday, as Carlos Santana's two-run single highlighted a four-run first inning that helped the Tribe to a 4-3 win.

Jeanmar Gomez (5-7) gave up four hits, including solo home runs by David Murphy and Adrian Beltre, walked two and struck out five in 5 2/3 innings.

"Gomez threw the ball well," Indians manager Manny Acta said of his starter. "He pitched ahead for the most part."

Vinnie Pestano pitched out of a first-and-third jam in the eighth and worked around a one-out single in the ninth to notch his first save of the season.

Scott Feldman (6-11) recovered from a rough first inning to pitch six frames for Texas.

"It was a nightmare first inning there," Feldman said. "They came out swinging and seemed like everything I threw up there they were swinging at and they got some hits."

The Rangers won nine of 10 versus the Indians last season, including all four at Cleveland, but the Tribe won two of three when the teams met in Cleveland from May 4-6.
