Gallardo gets first career start against Giants
Jun 18, 2007 - 1:07 PM San Francisco (30-38) at Milwaukee (38-31) 8:05 pm EDTMILWAUKEE (Ticker) - Yovani Gallardo will get his first career start as the Milwaukee Brewers host the San Francisco Giants in the opener of a three-game series on Monday.
Gallardo (NR), who was called up as a result of Chris Capuano being place on the disabled list, posted an 8-3 record with a 2.90 ERA and 110 strikeouts in 13 starts at Class AAA Nashville.
The 21-year-old righthander suffered a 2-1 loss to Memphis on Tuesday. In his last outing in the minors, he pitched six innings and gave up two runs and four hits with 12 strikeouts.
The rookie will be opposed by Noah Lowry (6-5, 3.46 ERA), who won his previous start.
The lefthander pitched six innings, surrendering two runs and four hits with four walks and five strikeouts in a 3-2 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday.
Barry Bonds will continue his chase of Hank Aaron's career home run record after blasting his 748th homer in a 9-5 loss to the Boston Red Sox on Sunday. He needs eight homers to pass Aaron.
