Brewers call on Peralta in meeting with Marlins

Sep 5, 2012 - 2:48 PM (Sports Network) - Dominican right-hander Wily Peralta makes the first start of his big-league career Wednesday when the Milwaukee Brewers head back to Marlins Park for the third of four games with the host Miami Marlins.

The 23-year-old, signed as an amateur free agent by the Brewers as a 17-year- old, made his debut in the majors on April 22 with a one-inning relief appearance against Colorado in which he allowed a run on three hits.

He's spent the bulk of his time this season in the minors at Triple-A Nashville, where he made 28 starts and posted a 4.66 earned run average across 146 2/3 innings while going 7-11.

In six career seasons in the minors, he was 33-35 with a 3.99 ERA in 139 appearances, in which he struck out 589 batters in 620 2/3 innings.

He's opposed by fellow youngster Nathan Eovaldi, a 22-year-old right-hander drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2008.

He debuted in the majors with the Dodgers last season and was 1-2 in 10 appearances, then was 1-6 with them in 10 games this season before heading to Miami in the July trade that sent Hanley Ramirez to Los Angeles.

Eovaldi has made seven starts with the Marlins since the deal, winning three of seven decisions while posting a 5.03 ERA in 34 innings.

His last win came Aug. 18 at Colorado, where he allowed a run in 6 2/3 innings of a 6-5 victory.

He's 0-2 with a 2.77 ERA in 13 career innings against the Brewers.

On Tuesday, Jeff Bianchi's three-run homer in the top of the eighth inning secured the 8-4 victory for the Brewers.

Ryan Braun's go-ahead infield single put the Brewers ahead 5-4 in the top of the seventh inning. Braun went 2-for-4 for the night, also driving in Milwaukee's first run in the first with a double to score Rickie Weeks.

The Brewers, who have won 12 of their last 15 games, got back to three games below .500 after losing the series opener to the Marlins, 7-3, on Monday.

Kameron Loe (6-4) got the win for the Brewers. With the Brewers trailing 4-3, Loe entered the game in the sixth inning after Marlins catcher Rob Brantly flied out to left field with runners on first and second.

With two away, Loe retired Donnie Murphy on two pitches, getting him to ground into a force out at third base.

The Marlins entered the series with a 53-52 lead in all-time matchups between the teams, though Milwaukee swept all seven games in 2011. In one four-game series in 2012 from July 2-5, the Brewers won the first two game and Miami took the second two.
