Twins' Santana looks to continue success against Mets

FLUSHING, New York (Ticker) - Minnesota Twins lefthander Johan Santana will try to remain perfect against the New York Mets when the teams meet on Tuesday.

In two career starts against the Mets, Santana (6-6, 3.19) is 2-0 with a 1.38 ERA over 13 innings.

Despite pitching well in his last start, the defending American League Cy Young Award winner did not get a decision and remains winless in three starts this month.

Santana allowed two runs in seven innings during Thursday's game against the Atlanta Braves and left the game trailing 2-0. The Twins rallied for a 3-2 win by scoring three times in the bottom of the ninth.

Jorge Sosa (6-2, 3.42) gets the start for the Mets, who have just three wins in their last 14 games. After winning six of his first seven starts, Sosa had his worst start of the season in his last outing on Wednesday against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The righthander allowed six runs and eight hits in 5 2/3 innings as the Dodgers coasted to a 9-1 victory.

John Maine pitched 7 1/3 strong innings and Carlos Delgado and Ricky Ledee homered as the Mets picked up an 8-1 victory over the Twins on Monday.

Jose Reyes had a single in the third inning to extend his hitting streak to nine games. He is hitting .389 (14-for-36) in that span.
