Rodriguez, Yankees look to continue winning ways against Rockies
Jun 19, 2007 - 1:56 PM NY Yankees (35-32) at Colorado (35-34) 9:05 pm EDTDENVER (Ticker) -- Alex Rodriguez is making it look easy.
Rodriguez and the New York Yankees aim to continue a winning trend when they face the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday.
Rodriguez belted his major league-leading 27th homer in an 8-2 interleague victory over the crosstown Mets on Sunday.
The blast, which came in the first inning with Derek Jeter aboard, was his eighth homer and 28th RBI in June. The nine-time All-Star has been a big reason the Yankees have won two straight and 11 of 12.
In this interleague matchup vs. Colorado, Mike Mussina (3-3, 5.17 ERA) will toe the rubber for New York in his second career start at Coors Field.
A 17-year veteran, Mussina allowed five runs and eight hits in six innings in a 10-5 victory vs. the Rockies on June 18, 2002. It was one of two wins the Yankees took in that three-game series that saw them score 41 runs overall, the most ever by an opponent here.
The Rockies have won 10 of 14 games to move above the .500 mark. They send Josh Fogg (2-5, 4.95) to the mound hoping he can lead them to a fourth consecutive victory when he starts.
The righthanded Fogg yielded just two runs and seven hits in five innings vs. the Boston Red Sox last Wednesday. He has never started against New York, but has had three relief appearances vs. the Yankees.
