Final
Giants down Padres
Sep 22, 2012 - 5:50 AMVideo
Sandoval tallied three hits overall for the red-hot Giants, who have won nine of their last 10 games.
Their magic number to clinch the NL West was reduced to two games.
Vogelsong (13-9) struck out four and scattered five hits to pick up the win.
Casey Kelly (2-2) surrendered two runs on seven hits and four walks over 4 1/3 frames for San Diego, which has dropped three of its last four contests.
"I think the walks came back and got him," Padres manager Bud Black said of Kelly. "He wasn't wild, just couldn't hit his spots."
The Padres struck first in the fourth when Chase Headley launched a one-out solo shot into McCovey Cove in right field.
The Giants, however, tallied the final five runs of the contest. They plated a run in the fourth, another in the fifth and three more in the sixth.
Brandon Belt worked a one-out walk in the fourth and scored following back-to- back singles by Gregor Blanco and Brandon Crawford.
Marco Scutaro led off the fifth with a free pass and came home after consecutive base hits by Sandoval and Buster Posey.
Angel Pagan belted a two-out triple to center field in the sixth and scored on Scutaro's single to left field. Sandoval came up next and cracked a two-run blast to right field.
Game Notes
The Giants were 3-for-9 with runners in scoring position, while San Diego finished 0-for-3 with RISP ... Headley's homer was his 21st since the All-Star break and 29th of the season.
