Haren takes the hill as A's look for series win vs. Reds

OAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- Dan Haren and the Oakland Athletics will try to get back to their winning ways against the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday.

The majors' ERA leader, Haren (8-2, 1.64 ERA) takes the hill for the Athletics as they look to rebound from their first loss to the Reds since the 1990 World Series.

Rookie Homer Bailey threw seven brilliant innings and Ken Griffey Jr. homered as Cincinnati beat Oakland, 5-2, on Tuesday, the first time in seven tries.

Now Haren looks to make sure it is the only win the Reds get against his team this season. Haren has won two straight outings and five of his last six starts, allowing just eight runs over his last 43 2/3 innings.

In his last outing, the 26-year-old beat his former team - the St. Louis Cardinals - by limiting them to three runs - two earned - and six hits in seven innings of a 14-3 win on Friday.

Haren will be opposed by Matt Belisle (5-5, 4.95), who is coming off one of his worst starts of the season. The righthander allowed seven runs and nine hits in five innings against the Texas Rangers on Friday.
