Rockies seek series sweep of Yankees

DENVER (Ticker) - The Colorado Rockies will try to complete a three-game sweep of the New York Yankees when they meet in the finale of the series Thursday.

Colorado's pitching staff has been the story in this series so far, limiting New York's high-powered offense to just two runs and 12 hits.

On Wednesday, Jeff Francis struck out a career-high nine batters and Matt Holliday delivered the go-ahead two-run homer as Colorado posted a 6-1 victory.

Rodrigo Lopez (3-0, 2.90 ERA) takes the ball for the Rockies. He allowed two runs and eight hits in six innings of a 12-2 win against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays last Friday.

The righthander is 7-8 with a 6.02 ERA in 23 career appearances against New York.

The Yankees will counter with veteran Roger Clemens (1-1, 3.65), who hopes his teammates can provide some run support this time around.

In his last outing, Clemens yielded two runs and seven hits with eight strikeouts in 6 1/3 frames during a 2-0 setback against the New York Mets.

The seven-time Cy Young Award winner enters just one shy from becoming the first major pitcher to reach 350 career wins since Warren Spahn recorded his on September 29, 1963.

The 44-year-old righthander has a 2-0 record with a 3.04 ERA in four lifetime outings when facing Colorado.
