Reyes gunning for first win, faces Phillies

ST. LOUIS (Ticker) - Anthony Reyes again tries for his first win of the season when the St. Louis Cardinals host the Philadelphia Phillies in the opener of a three-game series on Friday.

Reyes (0-8, 6.34 ERA) has not recorded a victory in 10 starts this season and hasn't won a regular season game since September 3. Oddly enough, Reyes' last win came in Game One of the World Series in October.

After struggling through the first two months of the season, Reyes was sent to Class AAA Memphis. The Cardinals recently recalled Reyes, but he pitched poorly in his return, allowing five runs, seven hits three walks in five innings against Oakland on Sunday.

Jamie Moyer (6-5, 4.40) starts for the Phillies, who come into Friday trailing the first-place New York Mets by two games in the National League East. In nine career appearances - eight starts - against the Cardinals, Moyer is 3-1 with a 2.86 ERA.

In seven career games against the Cardinals, slugger Ryan Howard is batting .321 (9-for-28) with three home runs and nine RBI. Teammate Chase Utley also has enjoyed success against St. Louis, batting .319 (23-for-72) with one home run an 12 RBI in 17 games.
