Dodgers aim to continue road momentum vs. Rays

Jun 22, 2007 - 12:58 PM LA Dodgers (41-31) at Tampa Bay (31-39) 7:10 pm EDT

ST. PETERSBURG, Florida (Ticker) - After winning their first interleague road series in three seasons, the Los Angeles Dodgers will try for two straight as they kick off a three-game set with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays on Friday.

The Dodgers, who took two of three games from the Toronto Blue Jays over the last three days, won a interleague series away from Dodger Stadium for the first time since taking two from the Angels from July 2-4, 2004.

Derek Lowe (7-6, 3.08 ERA), who will be facing the Devil Rays for the first time since 2004, is a good candidate to keep the momentum going. The righthander is 9-3 with a 3.05 ERA in 37 appearances - including 13 starts - in his career against Tampa Bay.

The sinkerballer is coming off his finest performance of the season, as he struck out a career-high 11 over seven frames on Friday in a 2-1 win over Anaheim. In fact, he is 3-1 with a 1.72 ERA while holding opponents to a .144 batting average in his last five starts.

Rookie Andy Sonnanstine (1-1, 7.11), who will be making his fourth career start, will take the mound after lasting five innings on Saturday. He surrendered seven runs and six hits as Tampa Bay endured a 10-5 loss to Tampa Bay.

Sonnanstine has been particularly troubled by the long ball, as he has six home runs in his first 19 major-league innings. However, he has walked just two and struck out 20. The righthander will be his first appearance against the Dodgers.
