Indians look to rebound against the Nationals
Jun 23, 2007 - 1:57 PM Cleveland (42-30) at Washington (31-42) 7:05 pm EDTWASHINGTON (Ticker) - The Cleveland Indians will look to even the series when they visit the Washington National on Saturday in the second game of their final interleague series of the season.
The Indians dropped Friday's contest, 4-1, failing to get anything going against Micah Bowie and six relievers.
Brandon Watson, who was recalled from the minors after an International League-record 43-game hitting streak, knocked in two runs with a pair of hits against Fausto Carmona to give the Nationals the edge.
Watson and co. will take their hacks against control artist Paul Byrd (6-3, 4.81 ERA) on Saturday. The veteran righthander has walked just four batters in 73 innings this season, but has gotten abused in his last three outings.
Byrd is 0-2 with a 9.60 ERA over that span, allowing opponents to hit .413 against him.
Washington will counter with Matt Chico (3-5, 5.35). The 24-year-old lefthander suffered through a terrible outing last Monday, yielding eight runs and nine hits in four innings to take the loss against Detroit.
