After rough week, Orioles seek fourth straight win
Jun 23, 2007 - 2:03 PM Baltimore (32-41) at Arizona (42-32) 9:40 pm EDTPHOENIX (Ticker) - Though a cloud of negativity has seemingly hovered over Baltimore Orioles this week, the team still has managed three consecutive wins.
The Orioles look to make it four in a row when they visit the Arizona Diamondbacks in the middle game of three-game interleague series on Saturday.
After firing manager Sam Perlozzo on Monday, the Orioles learned Thursday that their No. 1 choice as successor, Joe Girardi, didn't want the job.
Late Thursday, the team found out that All-Star shortstop Miguel Tejada had a broken wrist after being hit by a pitch Wednesday. Tejada was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Friday, ending his consecutive games streak at 1,152 - the fifth-longest streak in history.
Brian Burres (3-2, 2.94 ERA) hopes to provide Baltimore with some positive news as he makes his second straight start against the Diamondbacks, who he held in check during his last start Sunday.
The lefthander allowed three runs and five hits over seven innings while striking out a career-high nine batters. Burres retired 14 straight batters at one point, but failed to get a decision in the 6-4 loss.
The month of June has not gone well for Arizona starter Livan Hernandez (5-5, 4.50). The 32-year-old Cuban is 0-3 with a 7.43 ERA in four starts this month and has been particularly bad in his last two outings, allowing 13 runs in 10 innings far an 11.70 ERA. He is 3-1 with 3.21 ERA in four career starts against the Orioles.
Brian Roberts homered and the Orioles scored four unearned runs on three fielding errors in a 7-1 victory here on Friday.
