Maine takes mound as Mets try for sweep of A's

FLUSHING, New York (Ticker) - John Maine takes the mound as the New York Mets aim for a three-game sweep of the Oakland Athletics on Sunday.

Maine (7-4, 2.90 ERA) will be looking to help the Mets to their first three-game winning streak in almost a month.

New York won 1-0 on Friday thanks to a walk-off double from David Wright and ensured its first series win in seven tries. The Mets are just 6-14 in June and have not won three in row since winning four straight from May 25-29.

The 26-year-old Maine won for the first time in three starts on Monday, limiting the Minnesota Twins to one run and four hits in 7 1/3 innings.

Meanwhile, the A's have not scored a run in the last 16 innings, and have lost six of their last seven games.

Joe Kennedy (2-4, 3.62) takes the mound for Oakland as it tries to avoid being swept. Kennedy is winless in his last two starts having allowed eight runs - seven earned - and 13 hits in his last 10 innings. In his last start, the lefthander yielded four runs - three earned - and seven hits in five innings against the St. Louis Cardinals last Sunday.
